Nation War Overhaul & Patch notes
This update introduces major Nation War improvements, including better team balancing and a new Waiting Room system, alongside several general fixes and Red Mage/Archer balance adjustments. Infestation has also been reworked to provide more consistent clear times across classes, with adjusted waves, monster balancing, temporary reward boosts, and a temporary 400-point limit while class balance continues to be evaluated.
General Changes
- The Pet Interfaces now display pet experience to 2 decimal places, making smaller experience gains easier to track.
- Fixed an issue that could cause Boss Icons in Nation War to not disappear after the boss was defeated.
- The Mini-Map now automatically reappears after leaving an area where the Mini-Map is disabled, provided it was visible before entering the area.
- Target Frames for players participating in matches now display health as a percentage only, rather than displaying exact health values.
- The Event Interface now displays the remaining duration of LIVE events.
- Applied another series of memory leak fixes that were causing memory usage to gradually increase over time in densely populated areas (resulting in crashes).
- Added a new system for characters with inappropriate/invalid names.
- Players will now be notified that the character must be renamed before it can be used again and will be given the opportunity to rename the character free of charge.
- Depending on the reason the name is inappropriate, the account may also receive additional punishments.
Balance Changes
Balance changes are a regular part of any game, and we encourage players to continue providing feedback on their classes and anything they agree or disagree with. Players are also always welcome to make further suggestions or propose different solutions to balance concerns. When providing balance feedback, please be as specific as possible. Simply stating that something is too strong, too weak, or unfair makes it difficult for us to properly evaluate the situation. Whenever possible, include the exact situation you experienced, such as your class, health, equipment, and relevant stats, along with the opposing player's class, health, equipment, and relevant stats. The same applies when providing feedback about PvE content. If you disagree with a change, explain why, provide examples of where you are experiencing a problem, and suggest what you believe could be changed instead. The goal is to keep balance discussions productive and give us useful information that can actually be evaluated when considering further changes.
- Red Touch now only applies to the player who cast it, preventing it from being used in conjunction with Pyrium's Reckoning.
- Red Mages have received a 5% AP reduction to the base Attack Power of the Pyrium Staff, as well as a 5% reduction to the Attack Power gained through staff item stats.
- This reduction scales downward for Level 1-13 weapons.
- Void Staff now provides 5% less AP and Optional Damage.
- Archers have received a 2.5% AP reduction to the base Attack Power of the Arcus Bow, as well as a 2.5% reduction to the Attack Power gained through bow item stats.
- This reduction scales downward for Level 1-13 weapons.
- Void Bow now provides 7% less AP and Optional Damage.
- Monsters configured around specific target Time-to-Kill (TTK) values will now automatically have their defenses recalculated when character balance changes affect player stats.
- This means areas such as Islands and Turfs will automatically adjust monster balance alongside character balance changes, helping maintain their intended TTK.
Nation War Changes
As discussed in the Nation War Feedback topic posted on our Discord two weeks ago, we have begun implementing the changes discussed with the community.
- Team Balancing
- Nation War teams are no longer balanced based solely on the number of participating players. The system now also attempts to evenly distribute player classes and levels between each team.
- In the future, we plan to explore a more advanced Gear Score system.
- This could allow player equipment to be considered when balancing teams.
- It could also allow equipment to be locked for the duration of Nation War, preventing players from manipulating their Gear Score after teams have been selected.
- Waiting Room
- When the Nation War countdown reaches 1 minute, all players who selected Participate will automatically be teleported to the new Event Waiting Room.
- While inside the Waiting Room, players:
- Can only see other members of their own team.
- Have access to a Potion Merchant, Warehouse, Teleport NPC, and Quit NPC.
- Can use the Teleport NPC after Nation War begins to manually enter the battle at either their nation's designated starting location or a random location.
- Can use the Quit NPC to leave the event. Doing so immediately removes the player from the event and forfeits eligibility for all Nation War rewards.
- If this feature is abused in bad faith, or if players feel it is necessary, we may introduce automatic event bans similar to the existing AFK penalties.
- When Nation War begins, all players remaining in the Waiting Room will automatically be teleported to their nation's designated starting location.
- Players who die during Nation War will return to the Waiting Room.
- Players have 30 seconds to respawn manually. If they do not, they will automatically respawn.
- After respawning, players have up to 60 seconds in the Waiting Room to repot and prepare before returning to battle.
- Once the 60 seconds expire, they will automatically be teleported back to their nation's starting location.
- Players who are ready before the 60 seconds expire can use the Teleport NPC to immediately re-enter Nation War at either their nation's starting location or a random location.
- Other Notes & Changes
- Players no longer receive a chat message informing them which nation they have been assigned to.
- The additional Nation War changes discussed in the original Discord feedback topic are still planned and will be introduced in a future update.
Infestation Activity Changes
- Fixed an issue that could sometimes cause players who died on Floor 2 to respawn on Floor 1.
- Fixed an issue that could occasionally cause an additional wave to spawn shortly after Wave 7.
- In order to provide a more consistent and achievable clear time across all classes, Floor 3 waves now spawn the following monster combinations:
- Wave 1: Normal + Empowered
- Wave 2: Normal
- Wave 3: Empowered
- Wave 4: Normal
- Wave 5: Empowered
- Wave 6: Normal
- Wave 7: Normal + Empowered + Maldraka
- Wave 8+: Normal + Empowered
- The defense of Normal and Empowered monsters has been reduced against Blade Warriors, Fist Warriors, Archers, and Blue Mages.
- The defense of Normal and Empowered monsters has been increased against Red Mages.
- The Attack Power of Normal monsters has been reduced.
- The movement speed of all monsters has been adjusted.
- The additional monsters that spawn around Maldraka will now only spawn once with Maldraka.
- For the next 7 days (until September 9th), Infestation rewards for Blade Warriors, Fist Warriors, Archers, and Blue Mages have been increased by 30% (calculated at the event of the activity).
- We have temporarily introduced a 400 point maximum for the Infestation Activity.
- This temporary limit has been introduced so we can more accurately balance the activity without one class earning substantially more Infestation Points than the others while adjustments are being made.
- If all classes are successfully reaching the limit, we will increase it as necessary.
- The limit will be removed once we are satisfied that the activity is appropriately balanced across all classes.
- The 400 point limit is applied before the temporary 30% reward increase for non-Red Mage classes. As a result, Blade Warriors, Fist Warriors, Archers, and Blue Mages can currently earn up to 520 points with the 400 point limit.
